    108th Day Without A Pass

These two days I have been reading intensively on the book of 孫子兵法. It’s a book of “家傳之寶”that’s passed down by my father. Ha. I always said it in his bookshelf but never pick it up to read until now. The book is really interesting. It is written with a storyline with two main characters 孫武and 伍子胥. (By the way, the Chinese word “胥”is pronounced in Cantonese as "衰”. Why has he such a name as being such a great people?” :p) Anyway I read until pg266. Initially I picked up this book again is because of my father. All the while, I don’t understand my father and his thinking. He will tell me more if I tried to guess his thinking or understand his thinking. He’s a complex person but that’s why 孫子兵法 interests him. In the book of 孫子兵法, different people has their hidden agendas and of course they would not allow people to know completely what they are thinking, even between son and father. This may be because he was in the business world for very long time that he may not be able to get out of his position after work. Anyway I will try my best to understand him. :)

Yesterday I was too bored so I went to Ang Mo Kio to walk walk. I walked around and I bought Passion Fruit Tea from Koi. It should be my last time drinking because  my stomach problem came back. As I passed by the ABC shop, I brought a glue to mend my sandals. It should cost cheaper to buy the glue than buying a new pair of sandals. After that I went to AMK library, I returned a book and borrow another two books - “赤壁之戰與三國計謀”and “最後14堂星際二的課”. The book on 赤壁之戰 was disappointing because it covers less thing than the movie. I thought the movie was a summary but this book is even more summarized. I finished it after dinner.

Yesterday dinner was great. I love the sweet and sour fish. The fish is really big and the sweet and sour sauce is so delicious. I ate 4 or 5 bowls of rice. :p But some funny things happened. As we were eating the fish, we found a foreign thing from the fish stomach and realized it was a piece of paper. Auntie Michelle said “I fried the paper as well” haha. We all liked the fish except Meimei :p. Chris complained that the plate of 芥蘭 has disappeared fast. Anyway he ate 芥蘭 again in his today’s lunch.

We, Uncle Eric, Chris and me, went to Bugis for shopping today. I was looking for a Bermudas but found nope suitable. Chris brought a belt, a chain and a tie. During our walk along Bugis street, we found Auntie Connie shop. It was located on the second floor and it’s called “His Closest”. Auntie Connie has slimmed down a lot. Uncle Eric has chatted with her for about 10-20 minutes. She talked about her son has received the enlistment letter to NS but think he may be in pat C. Her daughter Sharon was preparing to go JC since she needs not take “O” level. Thanks God to hear that her shop was doing well. :) When we are on the train, I asked about how I should prepare if I am planning to work in China. He said from his experience in working in Shanghai. He was challenged by his colleagues when he first started his career in Shanghai. But then he holds on to his belief that even he may not have the local experience or the local network, he can still stand because of his knowledge that will not change between different locations. True. I should prepare myself well for the working world. It was my 108th days waiting for my pass. I need to do something fruitful in this time of uncertainty.

Tonight Auntie Michelle baked mooncakes.  The aroma from the oven is really nice. Auntie May has baked too. This reminds of my mom who used to bake mooncake also. But she did not bake when she returned to Hong Kong. It was so warm to bake mooncake for friends and family. Actually it was a blessing that Singapore does not have all nice HK food available so Hongkongers think of ways to continue those traditional HK food in Singapore. 少了一種方便,卻多了一份溫情。:)
